How to enable domain forwarding

Domain Forwarding is used to redirect visitors from one web address to another. Once a domain is registered, you can enable the domain forwarding service from our Reseller Control Panel.
How the domain forwarding behaves depends on the format of the redirect that you have set.

Types of domain forwarding

Type of forwarding	Details	Example
Root level redirect	A forward set for the root level domain name.	domain.com forwards to destinationdomain.com, but test.domain.com doesn't.
Sub-domain wildcard redirect	A wildcard forward set for a sub-domain (*.domain.com). Anything placed before the "." will be redirected to the destination. Note: Wildcard sub-domain redirect is not suggested and can impact items such as DMARC if other extensions of the domain are used.	test.domain.com, shop.domain.com, my.domain.com forwards to destinationdomain.com, but domain.com doesn't.
Sub-domain redirect	A forward set for a sub-domain.	test.domain.com forwards to destinationdomain.com, but shop.domain.com doesn't.

How to set up domain forwarding

To enable domain forwarding, you need to create an A record for your domain and set it to 64.99.64.37. If you expect to enable domain forwarding for multiple domains, you can create a template that has an A record set to the domain forwarding IP address (64.99.64.37).

Note: For storefront nameservers (ns1.shopco.com,ns2.shopco.com,ns3.shopco.com) the forwarding A Record is 64.99.64.32 and must be added via the storefront end-user portal.

1. Click the Domains tab in the Reseller Control Panel.
2. In the text field, enter the domain name for which you want to enable domain forwarding and click Search.
3. Click on the domain name from the search results.
   
   
4. In the Nameservers section, click Edit and ensure that the Provider is set to Use our nameservers.
   
   
5. In the DNS section, click Edit and do one of the following:
   
   • From the DNS Template drop-down list, choose the domain forwarding template if you have already created one for forwarding and click Apply.
     
     
   • If you don't have a template for forwarding, choose A Record from the Add Record drop-down list and enter 64.99.64.37 in the associated IP Address field.
     
     
6. From the Add Record drop-down list, choose Forward or Masked Forward. If you select Masked Forward, the destination website address that appears in the browser address field will be the original domain name and not the address of the destination. If you choose Forward, the actual destination address will be displayed.
   Note: Masked forwards may not work in all cases as it depends on whether the destination server permits a masked forward or not.
   
7. If you are creating a Masked Forward, you can also complete the following optional fields:
   • Page Title: The text that you want to appear in the browser title bar.
   • Page Description: A short description of your website.
   • Page Keywords: Descriptive words that a visitor might use when searching for your website. Separate each word or phrase with a comma.
8. In the Destination URL field, enter the address to which you want to redirect visitors, for example, http://www.mycompany.com/, mybestpage.html, or http://12.34.43.123.
   Note: Forwards with HTTPS redirection may or may not work depending on if the destination server permits HTTPS redirection or not.
   
9. Click Save DNS settings.
