Domain transfers are submitted from the Reseller Control Panel (RCP) or via the API. When a .DE domain is transferred into OpenSRS with nameservers incorrectly configured, the transfer order still completes successfully, but the domain does not point to the nameservers listed on the transfer order.
Important: The registry deletes domains that are out of compliance with their nameserver guidelines after 30 days.
Transferring .DE domains
Manually transfer in the RCP using custom nameservers
- Log in to the Reseller Control Panel.
-
Select the Domains tab and click the + (plus) icon.
-
Search for the domain name in the pop-up window.
-
Click on Transfer? link. This option only appears when the domain is transferrable.
-
Type in the registrant username and password for your end-user to be able to manage the domain at the Manage Web Interface (MWI) or use the Associate with existing user button to insert the domain into an existing profile.
Note: Registrants use the MWI to modify domain details.
-
Select the registrant type and complete the owner's contact details as needed.
-
Select keep existing nameservers or use your own nameservers. When using your own nameservers, add the servers in the nameserver fields.
Transferring in a .DE domain with DNSSEC enabled prevents the domain from activating. Remove DNSSEC prior to transfer or contact support to remove it on transferred-in domains.
Note: The registry deletes domains that are out of compliance with their nameserver guidelines for 30 days. When you encounter nameserver issues during transfer, take action promptly.
- Submit the order by clicking Submit registration.
- Have the registrant enter the authorization code in the approval email sent to them.
- When the transfer completes, verify that the nameservers are successfully activated by checking the RWI .DE dns activations page. Domains listed on this page are not yet activated. Correct the nameservers to meet registry requirements and submit the nameservers again by checking the box next to the activate and click Submit.
Manually transfer in the RCP using SystemDNS nameservers
-
Log in to the Reseller Control Panel.
- Ensure that a DNS template is configured for the domain.
-
Select the Domains tab and click the + (plus) icon.
-
Search for the domain name in the pop-up window.
-
Click on Transfer?
If you don’t allow this access, it is still a requirement.
-
Select the registrant type and complete the owner's contact details as needed.
-
Select use our nameservers in the nameservers section.
-
Select your DNS template to apply the template that you have configured for your account.
- Submit the order by clicking Submit registration.
- Have the registrant enter the authorization code in the approval email sent to them.
Bulk transfer .DE domains via API requests
You can use the OpenSRS API to submit multiple transfer orders at once. Here are the API endpoints for .DE transfers.
sw_register |
The command for submitting a new registration or transfer order |
tld_data |
Parameter required for .DE domain transfer orders, using the registrant_extra_info value. |
registrant_type |
Required parameter within the registrant_extra_info for .DE domains. |
activate (domain) |
Activates an inactive .DE domain. |
Nameserver Requirements
Activation requires at least two functional name servers. Nameservers must be active on two different subnets and must be authoritative for the domain name at registration.
The registry NAST tool verifies the functionality of the name servers.
When a name is registered, with inactive nameservers, a 30-day window to correct this is provided. when the 30-day period completes without active nameservers, DENIC deletes the domain name without providing any refund.
The nameservers associated with the domain name can be modified during the 30-day period, subject to DENIC verification. When name servers do not meet DENIC criteria, the change request is ignored.
When the name servers are inactive on registration, they must be resubmitted once they have been updated. Their status continues to show as failed until DENIC accepts them.
Post-transfer nameserver activations
Nameservers used for .DE domains must have a valid zone that responds to queries; the activation page tool enables resellers to resubmit inactive names for activation once the nameservers are valid.
Note: The status shows as failed until DENIC accepts the nameservers.
- Log in to the Reseller Web Interface.
- Click .DE DNS activations from the view orders section.
- Check the box next to activate and push the Submit button.
