Create Mailbox Accounts in OpenSRS Hosted Email

Create new email accounts for your customers through the Reseller Control Panel (RCP) or the Mail Administration Console (MAC). You can add individual users one at a time, or use bulk tools to create many at once. This article covers single-user creation in both interfaces.

About OpenSRS mailbox types

OpenSRS supports three types of user accounts. Choose the type that matches how each address should behave.

  • Mailbox — a standard account that can receive and send email.
  • Forward — automatically forwards incoming mail to another mailbox. Forward-only accounts cannot send mail, and messages are not stored.
  • Filter — blocks spam messages while allowing clean mail to flow through to a target account.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the email domain is already provisioned in your account. If not, see Create a New Domain for Email Accounts.
  • Have the username and a temporary password ready for each account.
  • Decide whether you want to create one account at a time, or use bulk tools for multiple accounts. See Bulk Tools.
  • Know which interface you want to use: the Reseller Control Panel or the MAC.

Step 1: Create a user in the Reseller Control Panel

  1. Log in to the Reseller Control Panel.
  2. In the Email section, choose Email Domains.
  3. Select the domain you want to create the user for, then click the (+) sign.
  4. Set the username and password for the new account when prompted.
  5. Review the new user's User Settings page. Default settings apply automatically.

Tip: Click Edit in any section of the User Settings page to customize that user's preferences.

Step 2: Create a user in the MAC

The Mail Administration Console (MAC) is an alternative tool for managing email accounts. To create users, log in to the MAC for your cluster.

  1. Navigate to Cluster A MAC login or Cluster B MAC login.
  2. In the navigation pane, under the domain name, click Add User.
  3. Complete the User field and press Enter to enable the remaining fields.
  4. Fill in the applicable fields for the new account.
  5. Click Create to save the user, or Create & repeat to add another user without closing the window.
