An autoresponder sends an automatic reply to incoming messages for a mailbox. When you enable it, the system sends your reply to senders based on the rules and intervals you define. You can set an autoresponder from the Reseller Control Panel or from the Mail Administration Console (MAC).
About autoresponders
An autoresponder is useful when a mailbox owner is away or wants to acknowledge incoming mail automatically. You control the reply text, how often the same sender receives the reply, and the date the autoresponder stops running.
Tip: End users can also set their own autoresponder text directly in Webmail. See Webmail settings.
Step 1: Open the mailbox in the Control Panel
Start in the Email section of the Reseller Control Panel and open the mailbox you want to update.
- Log in to the Reseller Control Panel.
- In the Email section, navigate to the user you want to modify and click the user name.
- Under the User Settings tab, in the Sending & Receiving section, click Edit.
Step 2: Enable and configure the autoresponder
Turn on the autoresponder, enter your message, and set how it behaves.
- Select the Autoresponder enabled checkbox.
- In the Autoresponder Text field, enter the text of the automatic reply.
- In the Interval field, enter the number of days before the same recipient receives the reply again. If you leave this blank, the interval defaults to one day.
- In the End Date field, enter the last day the autoresponder is in effect, using the format YYYY-MM-DD.
- Click Save.
Setting an autoresponder in the MAC
You can also configure an autoresponder directly in the Mail Administration Console (MAC).
- Log in to the MAC and select Users from the left-hand menu.
- Locate and select the user you want to edit. See Searching in the MAC.
- In the Autoresponder section, enter the text of the automatic reply.
- In the Interval field, enter the number of days before the same recipient receives the reply again. If you leave this blank, the interval defaults to one day.
- In the End Date field, enter the last day the autoresponder is in effect, using the format YYYY-MM-DD. If you leave this blank, the autoresponder never expires.
- Click Update at the bottom of the page.
Next steps
- Update email account settings for the mailbox.
- Review the Mail Administration Console (MAC) guide for other administrative tasks.
