What is an aftermarket premium domain?

Aftermarket premium domains are sought-after, highly valuable domains that are already registered by someone. These domains are listed for sale through our aftermarket partners and their price is set by the current owner. Once purchased, the premium domain is transferred to the new registrant and is from that point forward dealt with as a standard domain.

Most premium domains fall into the aftermarket category.

Why sell aftermarket premium domains?

Generate a profit

As a reseller, you make 10% commission on all aftermarket premium domain sales.

Retain customers

Aftermarket premium domains are typically sought-after domains with a high market-value. Customers who purchase them will likely be looking for something specific, unwilling to settle for a less valuable alternative. Expanding your inventory to include aftermarket premiums prevents the loss of high-value customers who would otherwise purchase the domain elsewhere. Thus, offering registry aftermarket premium domains can help you ensure repeat business and give you a competitive edge.

How does the buying and selling process work?

Buying

When a customer searches for a domain that is listed as an aftermarket premium, the search results will display the price as listed by SEDO or Afternic. This set price is non-negotiable.

Selling

You can provide customers with the option to list a domain for sale through you. Having you list the domain through SEDO or Afternic on their behalf streamlines the process for the customer by allowing the transaction to be automatically processed once a buyer comes along.

As the reseller, you can determine the price you will charge for this service.

Customer FAQ

How much does a premium domain cost?

It depends. Various factors influence the perceived value of a domain name, including its length, memorability, and whether it contains one or more generic terms.

You can expect to pay anywhere from a few hundred dollars, to a few thousand.

The price of a premium domain as listed by the current owner is non-negotiable.

Why are premium domains more expensive than 'regular' domains?

Premium Domains have intrinsic value because they are memorable, or generic in nature. That value comes in the form of improved search engine optimization (SEO). Often, these are domains that can be used to define a company’s brand, or provide an easy, memorable way for web surfers to find a company.

Why should I spend more on a premium domain?

In short, it can have a very positive effect on your business.

A premium domain may provide better SEO, or a more memorable web address for your online venture. While a premium domain represents a bigger up-front investment than an available domain, the long-term payoff of having a perfect domain, rather than settling for something that isn’t quite right, can be substantial.

Do I have to pay a premium price to renew the domain?

No. The premium domain cost is a one-time payment to the current owner of the domain, much like a one-time payment made to purchase a used car. As the new owner of the domain, you are responsible for paying the standard renewal fee, as determined by the TLD category (.com, .ca etc.).

How long does the transfer process take?

Once a premium domain purchase is approved, the domain is instantly transferred to you as the new owner. You can begin using it immediately.
