Rather than periodically checking Storefront for new customers, you can have Storefront push a notification to your own systems the instant a customer registers — letting you create a matching record in your CRM automatically.
This combines Customer webhooks with your own customer ID, so the incoming event can be matched straight to a record in your system.
How it works
- Set up a webhook subscription for Customer Events in Storefront Manager, pointing at your own endpoint. See Using webhooks if you haven't done this yet.
- When a customer registers, Storefront sends a webhook with
event_type_name: createandrecord_type: customer. - If the customer was tagged with your own ID via
external_user_id— either at signup via query string, or via the API — that ID is part of the customer record Storefront is describing in the event.
What to build on your end
Your webhook handler should, on receiving a create customer event:
- Look up the customer's
external_user_id, if present. - If it matches an existing lead or record in your CRM, attach the new Storefront account to it.
- If there's no match, create a new CRM record from the event data.
Note: Set the ID before the customer registers, if you can
This flow works best when the customer already has an
external_user_idby the time they complete registration — for example, if they arrived via a link withextuseridattached. See Link your own customer ID to Storefront for how to do this.
