.SI is the country code TLD for Slovenia, and is regulated by the Register.si Registry, a part of ARNES (Academic and Research Network of Slovenia).
Registration details
Registration details can be found in the TLD reference chart.
NIS 2 Registrant Verification
Under the NIS 2 Directive, the .SI registry (Register.si) requires that registrant contact data be accurate, complete, and matched to the registrant's official documentation throughout the domain's lifecycle. Starting July 1, 2026, the registry runs risk assessments on registrant contact data and may flag a contact handle for verification at any time.
The following contact details must be accurate, verifiable, and an exact match to the registrant's official documentation:
- First and last name
- Company name
- Postal address
- Telephone number
- Email address
Note: All .SI registrants also receive annual WHOIS Data Reminder emails prompting them to review and update their contact information.
How verification works
When the registry flags a contact handle for verification, the process runs as follows:
- We immediately forward the registry's verification request to you by email. This email lists every domain associated with the flagged contact handle.
- As the reseller, you must alert the registrant that verification is required.
- The registrant must complete the verification request within 21 days of the contact handle being flagged.
If verification is not completed within the 21-day window, the registrant's domains are suspended. The table below explains each status.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Contact handle flagged | The registry has selected the contact handle for verification. The 21-day clock starts from this point. | Alert the registrant and complete verification before the deadline. |
| serverHold | The 21-day window passed without verification. All domains on the contact handle stop resolving and associated services stop working. | Complete verification to restore the domains. Domains are not deleted, and can still be renewed or transferred to another registrar. |
Warning: Domains on serverHold remain renewable and transferable, but they still expire on their normal expiration date if not renewed. Verification must be completed to bring them back online.
Completing a verification request
To correct or update flagged registrant data, submit an Owner Change request. A separate Owner Change request is required for each affected domain.
- Submit an Owner Change request for the affected domain with the corrected registrant data.
- The new (gaining) registrant receives a verification email confirming their details are accurate.
- The registrant clicks the confirmation link within 7 days of the Owner Change being submitted.
Warning: If the confirmation link is not clicked within 7 days, the order fails and must be resubmitted.
No documentation needs to be supplied during the Owner Change process. However, the updated data must be accurate and verifiable against official documentation, as the registry may run further compliance checks.
Note: Email address changes cannot be made through a contact update and must be submitted as an Owner Change request.
What this means for you
Review and update any incomplete or incorrect registrant contact data before the registry flags it. For registration details, see the TLD reference chart.
Changes of ownership
To change the registrant of a .SI domain, or to change a registrant's email address, submit an Owner Change request. A separate request is required for each domain, and Owner Changes are a billable action.
The new (gaining) registrant must confirm the change by clicking the verification link sent to them within 7 days, or the order fails and must be resubmitted. For the full process, see NIS 2 Registrant Verification above.
Name server & DNS Requirements
- Registry Tool
- Registry Documentation
- OpenSRS SystemDNS name servers can be used during domain registration
In order to activate a .SI domain, you must provide at least two functional nameservers. The nameservers on the domain must be authoritative in the zone file. The SOA of the nameservers must match.
The DNS predelegation checks occur automatically every couple of hours. The domain name will be added to the DNS automatically once the configuration is correct.
Renewals
All .SI domains are set to auto-renew by default.
Explicit renewals are allowed.
To allow a .SI domain to expire, auto-renew must be removed more than 2 days prior to expiry. Domains that expire will be placed on ClientHold status and later deleted.
Deletion of a .SI domain can be done at any point by contacting OpenSRS. The domain will be placed in Pending Quarantine status for 30 days, after which it will be purged and dropped from the registry database.
Transfers
Authcodes are required for all .SI transfers and can be obtained from the current registrar for the domain. The Authcode expires after 16 days. If you try to use an Authcode after it has expired, you will see a message saying that the Authcode is undefined. A new Authcode can be set using the Update API command.
