.MUSIC is a community-based generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) regulated by DotMusic Limited and administered by Tucows Registry.
The purpose of the .MUSIC gTLD is to exclusively serve the global music community and music industry.
.MUSIC is:

- Governed in the interest of the global music community
- Supported by organizations representing over 95% of music consumption globally

Eligibility / Nexus Criteria
The .MUSIC domain is the global music industry standard for official music websites.
Registration is restricted to legitimate members of the global music community, including (but not limited to):
- Musicians and artists
- Bands, groups, and creators
- Music industry professionals
- Music-related companies, associations, and organizations
.MUSIC domains are secure by default and include a verified checkmark badge to help establish trust and authenticity.
The buying, holding, or warehousing of .MUSIC domain names for resale - particularly in bulk - is strictly prohibited, in line with the mission of the TLD.
Self-Attestation Requirements
During the registration process, applicants must provide a self-attestation confirming that:
- They meet at least one of the applicable nexus/eligibility requirements, and
- The domain name and its intended use are consistent with:
- The mission and purpose of the .MUSIC gTLD
- Applicable laws and regulations
- Registry policies
Registrant Identity Verification
After a .MUSIC domain name is registered, registrants must complete identity verification through the Registry Operator’s Identity Verification Solution Provider (IVSP) at:
This verification process is required to maintain eligibility and compliance with .MUSIC policies.
Monitoring, Audits, and Compliance
The Registry may conduct programmatic or manual audits at any time during the lifecycle of a .MUSIC domain to ensure ongoing eligibility.
- Registrants may receive an audit request email from the Registry with instructions to complete verification
- Failure to respond within the specified timeframe may result in:
- Suspension
- Server lock
- Domain cancellation or deletion
If a registrant no longer meets the eligibility requirements, they must contact their registrar as soon as possible.

Registry Server Hold Status
Current Policy
Historically, newly registered .MUSIC domain names were placed on Registry Server Hold until the registrant completed identity verification.

What’s changing
- Newly registered .MUSIC domains will no longer be placed on immediate Registry Server Hold
- Upon successful registration, domains will be active and usable immediately
- Identity verification remains mandatory; however, registrants will now have up to one (1) year from the registration date to complete verification at ID.MUSIC
Decoupling of the .MUSIC Kit from .MUSIC Domains
Under our previous partnership with My.MUSIC, the .MUSIC Kit (a bundle of music-related services) was included at no additional cost with every .MUSIC domain registration. Due to a new agreement, this offering is changing.
What’s changing
Effective January 1, 2026 at 00:00:00 UTC:
- The .MUSIC Kit will no longer be automatically included with new or existing .MUSIC domain registrations.
- Domain registrations will continue as normal; this change affects only the bundled services.
Transition period
To support a smooth transition:
- Until April 1, 2026, registrants may request free access to the .MUSIC Kit by contacting support@my.music.
- After April 1, 2026, the .MUSIC Kit will be available as a paid, optional add-on, offered directly by My.MUSIC after domain registration.
What resellers should know
- No action is required for existing domains.
- Pricing and availability of the .MUSIC Kit after April 1, 2026 will be managed directly by My.MUSIC.
- Additional details or changes will be communicated if needed.
What remains the same
- Private registration is not permitted
- The Music Nexus policy remains fully in effect
- The Music Nexus checkbox is still required during registration
- Registry verification emails will continue to be sent to registrants
