.IL Domain Policies

The .IL extension is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Israel and is regulated by ISOC-IL.

Registration Details

Registration details can be found in the TLD reference chart.

Registration Levels Offered:

  • .CO.IL
  • .ORG.IL

Note: Registration at the .IL top-level (second-level) is not permitted.

Eligibility / Requirements

  • The registration process requires providing the domain name holder's details: name, address, email, telephone number, company number (if business), administrative and technical contacts, and active nameservers.
  • Allocated domain(s) must be intended for active use with delegation to operational primary and secondary DNS nameservers, both of which must have permanent IP addresses.

Registrant Data Verification Requirements

  • When initiating a registration or contact update, the registrant must verify that all registrant data is correct.
  • OpenSRS will send a verification email to the registrant's email address.
  • The registrant has 72 hours to verify the accuracy of their data by clicking the link in the email; otherwise, the order will fail.
  • Registrant verification is conducted before the order is submitted to ISOC-IL (Registry Operator).
  • Registrant email verification is triggered for all new registrations and contact updates, regardless of whether the registrant's previous contact data was verified.
  • The "Resend Verification Email" functionality is available via RCP and API:
    • If a new order is created and a verification email is sent, the RCP order view page will display a "Resend" link.
    • The same applies to the domain view page for contact updates and domain reassignments (for both the initial registrant ownership change email and the subsequent verification email).

The following APIs are related to this functionality:

  • get_registrant_verification_status
  • send_registrant_verification_email
  • get_order_registrant_verification_status (New — .il order-level verification only, the request parameters are the same as get_registrant_verification_status)
  • send_order_registrant_verification_email (New — .il order-level verification only, the request parameters are the same as send_registrant_verification_email)

The responses for get_order_registrant_verification_status and get_registrant_verification_status for .il domains are straightforward, returning no additional information such as deadlines.

If an order has a pending verification, or a domain has a pending verification or pending registrant ownership change approval (the first step of a domain reassignment), the response will be:

    <dt_assoc>

verifying

    </dt_assoc>

Otherwise, the response will be empty:

Important Notes

  • It is the registrant's responsibility to maintain up-to-date, complete, and correct data in the WHOIS database for the registered domain name, particularly contact person information, throughout the registration period.
  • If the registrant's WHOIS data appears incomplete, incorrect, or outdated, making it difficult to identify the registrant, ISOC-IL (Registry Operator) reserves the right to revoke the domain name without notice.

Permitted Periods

  • Registration period(s): 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years
  • Renewal period(s): 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years, counted from the expiry date of the current registration period
  • Owner change period(s): The remaining term is not carried over; the domain is re-registered with a new 1-year period

Required Contacts

  • Owner, Admin, and Tech

Transfer

  • Auth-code is required to transfer between registrars
  • Auth-code is valid for five (5) days and is single-use only
  • Owner change is not supported as part of registrar-to-registrar transfer. Registrant WHOIS data will remain the same.
  • OpenSRS will disregard new registrant data input and replace owner data with existing contact data saved at the registry level
  • Domains are not renewed as part of the transfer. However, OpenSRS will renew a domain only if it expires after transfer.

.IL Owner Change (Reassign)

.IL domains support registrant changes via the trade_domain process. An owner change is triggered under the following conditions:

  • Registrant_type has changed
  • registrant_type=organization and registration_number has changed
  • registrant_type=individual and both first_name+last_name and email have changed

Important Notes

  • Owner changes is billable transaction
  • Renewal is not included; however, the standard registration fee applies (treated as a new registration)
  • The remaining term is not reimbursed or carried over

Losing Registrant Approval

  • An approval request is sent to the current domain holder
  • The current domain holder has up to 72 hours to respond
  • Both the losing and gaining registrants should be made aware of the 72-hour response window
  • If either party fails to respond within the window, the order will fail automatically
  • Charges apply only upon successful submission and completion

.IL Contact Update

A contact update is an administrative modification of registrant details that does not change legal identity or ownership.

  • No renewal added
  • Non-billable transaction
  • Ownership remains unchanged
  • Registrant verification required (72-hour completion window)

Important: For async contact updates, OpenSRS will force a trade_domain under the following conditions:

  • registrant_type=organization and org_name has changed (registration_number unchanged)
  • registrant_type=individual and first_name+last_name has changed (email unchanged)

Otherwise, both trade_domain and the standard update_contacts API can be used.

Registrant name changes are permitted only if minor. Substantial changes must follow the Owner Change (Reassign) workflow.

Important: The registry may trigger a risk assessment following minor changes. If triggered, supporting documentation will be required.

Monitoring and Audits

  • During the domain name lifecycle, the registry may take steps to verify whether a registrant meets the requirements described in the policy. The registry may request that the registrant provide information to demonstrate compliance and maintain eligibility.
  • Failure to respond within the specified timeframe may result in suspension or deletion of the domain name.
  • If the registry determines that the registrant does not meet the registration requirements, the registry may, at its absolute discretion, cancel, lock, place on hold, transfer, or delete the domain name.
