Punktum dk, the registry operator for .DK domains, is introducing changes to domain registration data accuracy, identity verification, and WHOIS data publication to comply with the EU NIS2 Directive. These updates introduce new obligations for .DK domain holders and may impact both new and existing domains .
Failure to meet these requirements may result in domain suspension or deletion.
What’s changing for .DK domains?
To comply with NIS2 and updated Punktum dk policies:
- Registrant contact data must be accurate and kept up to date
- Identity (ID) verification may be required when registrant data is updated
- A valid VAT and CVR is mandatory
- Registrant email addresses must be functional and reachable
- For businesses Certain registrant email addresses may be published in WHOIS
The domain registration process itself remains unchanged, but verification and enforcement rules are being strengthened.

Active email validity checks
- Punktum dk actively monitors registrant email addresses using bounce checks.
- If an email address is found to be non-functional, registrars and resellers must work with the registrant to update it.
WHOIS email publication rules
As part of NIS2 compliance, rules governing the public display of registrant email addresses now apply.
Danish registrants (based on CVR data)
Registrant email addresses are publicly available if the registrant:
- Is listed in and locked to the Central Business Register (CVR), and
- Is notclassified as:
- Sole Proprietorship (Enkeltmandsvirksomhed)
- Deceased Estate (Dødsbo)
- Personally Owned Small Business (Personligt ejet mindre virksomhed)
- Bankruptcy estate under trustee administration (Konkursbo under kuratorbehandling)
Non-Danish registrants
Registrant email addresses are publicly available if the registrant:
- Has a registered VAT number, and
- Is not classified as a Sole Proprietorship (Enkeltmandsvirksomhed)
Foreign sole proprietorships
Non-Danish sole proprietors may request manual classification by:
- Contacting their registrar, or
- Contacting Punktum dk customer service with supporting documentation.

WHOIS data accuracy & identity verification
- All registrant contact details must be accurate:
- Name
- Postal address
- Email address
- Telephone number
- ID verification is primarily triggered when registrant data is updated, based on a risk assessment.
- By default, Punktum dk performs ID verification.
- Registrants have 30 days to complete verification once requested.
- Verification methods include:
- Meet ID
- Submission of official documentation
- All verification emails are sent from noreply@punktum.dk.

VAT / CVR requirements
A valid tax identifier is mandatory for all .DK registrations:
- Individuals: VAT number or personal identifier
- Companies: Valid CVR number
Where provided:
- VAT/CVR details are validated against official Danish registries
- Once validated, the identifier is locked and cannot be changed.
Public email address requirements for companies
For companies and other legal entities (excluding private individuals and sole proprietors):
- The registrant email address displayed in WHOIS must not contain personal data

What do domain holders need to do?
To avoid service disruption:
- Keep all registrant contact details accurate and up to date
- Ensure the registrant email address is functional and monitored
- Respond promptly to any ID verification requests from Punktum dk
- Use a non-personal email address for company registrations where required
What do resellers need to know?
- The registration process remains unchanged
- Punktum dk generally handles ID verification directly
- Resellers may be required to assist with:
- Updating incorrect contact data
- Supporting registrants during verification
- Timely action is essential to prevent suspension or deletion.
