Promotional Pricing lets you run storefront-wide sales, the kind larger domain retailers use to drive signups, like a first-year .com at $0.99 or a seasonal discount across your catalogue. Unlike a coupon code, a promotion applies automatically to every visitor who meets its criteria; nobody needs to enter anything at checkout.
Use Promotional Pricing when you want to advertise a sale broadly. Use a coupon code instead when you want to target a specific customer, partner, or campaign. See [Creating and Managing Coupon Codes in Storefront] for that workflow.
Before you begin
- If you plan a fixed-amount or set-price promotion, enable the currencies you want to discount in first. Only currencies active on your Storefront appear when you configure a promotion. See Selling in Multiple Currencies.
- A promotion discounts your existing retail price. It doesn't change your default markup or per-TLD pricing underneath it. See Setting Up Domain Pricing.
Create a promotion
- Navigate to the Promotions section in Storefront Manager.
- Click Create Promotion and give it a campaign name, for example ".com $10 off."
- Choose a discount type:
- Percentage — a discount from 1 to 100%.
- Fixed amount — a currency amount taken off the price, which can't take the price below $0.00. Set this separately for each active currency.
- Set price — the exact price a customer pays, for example $0.99 or $1.00 for a domain. Set this separately for each active currency.
- Choose which products the promotion applies to: a specific TLD, all TLDs, or (as they become available) other product types like email or hosting. For each, choose whether the discount applies to new purchases, renewals, or both.
- Set when the promotion runs: start immediately or schedule a future start date and time, and optionally an end date. Leave the end date blank to run the promotion indefinitely until you pause or end it manually.
- Save the promotion.
If you leave this flow before saving, your progress is kept as a Draft you can return to and finish later.
Manage your promotions
The Promotions list shows every promotion you've created, filterable and searchable by status (Active, Draft, Scheduled, Paused, Expired), name, or eligible product. Each row shows the promotion's name, status, discount type, eligible products, number of uses, and its created, start, and end dates.
Available actions depend on status:
| Status | Available actions |
|---|---|
| Active | Edit, Pause, Duplicate |
| Draft | Edit, Duplicate, Delete |
| Scheduled | Edit, Duplicate |
| Paused | Edit, Resume, Duplicate, Delete |
| Expired | Duplicate, Delete |
Clicking a promotion opens its details page, except for a Draft, which reopens the creation form where you left off.
Promotion details
Each promotion's details page has three tabs:
Overview shows the promotion's status, discount type, eligible products, number of uses, and its created, start, and end dates, along with an Edit Promotion button.
Performance shows how the promotion is doing: number of orders that included a promoted item, total discount given, and total revenue from those orders, each split out by currency where relevant. A Get Detailed Reports link takes you to the full Discounts report. See [Storefront Reports].
Orders lists every order that used this promotion.
Editing a promotion. You can change the name, dates, eligible products, and discount amount at any time. The discount type locks once a promotion has been activated, even if it's since been paused. Changes to an active promotion apply immediately.
Pausing a promotion. Pausing removes the promotional price from your storefront immediately without deleting the promotion or its history. Resume it to reapply the discount.
Duplicating a promotion. Duplicating creates a new Draft with the same settings and "(Copy)" appended to the name. Start and end dates are cleared, so you'll need to set new ones before activating the copy.
Deleting a promotion. You can delete a Draft or Expired promotion. Active or Scheduled promotions must be paused first. Deletion is permanent and asks for confirmation before it completes.
What your customers see
When a product has an active promotion, customers see the promotional price in place of the standard price on search results and product listing pages, with the original price shown struck through and a visual badge marking it as on sale.
At cart and checkout, the promotional price appears per item with the discount clearly attributed, for example ".com Promo — Spring Sale." If a TLD is on promotion, the standard renewal price still displays before payment, in line with ICANN disclosure requirements, so customers can see the ongoing cost even when the first year is discounted.
Order details and receipts show the original price, the discount amount, and the price actually paid for each discounted line item, so both you and your customer have a clear record of what the promotion saved.
Troubleshooting
My promotion is stuck in Draft even though I finished setting it up. If you navigate away before saving, your promotion is kept as a Draft rather than discarded. Reopen it from the Promotions list and save it to activate.
Customers aren't seeing the sale price. Confirm the promotion's status is Active, not Scheduled or Paused, and confirm the product in question is within its eligible products and purchase type (new, renewal, or both).
I can't delete a promotion. Active and Scheduled promotions can't be deleted directly. Pause the promotion first, then delete it.
I can't change my promotion's discount type. Discount type locks once a promotion has been activated, even if you've since paused it. Create a new promotion if you need a different discount type.
