Company administrators can set the maximum number of mailboxes that can be created for each email domain. This article shows you how to set or change the mailbox and alias limits for a specific domain, using either the Reseller Control Panel or the Mail Administration Console (MAC). Even if you have set a company-wide default, you can adjust the limit for an individual domain.
About mailbox limits
Only company administrators can set mailbox limits. Once a limit is set, it cannot be exceeded. The two values you control are the user limit (any account type, including regular mailboxes, forwards, and filters) and the alias limit.
Warning: If you restore an account that would push the domain over its mailbox limit, the restore fails with an error message. Increase the limit first, then retry the restore.
Set the limit in the Control Panel
Use the Reseller Control Panel to adjust limits for a specific domain through its settings.
- In the Email section of the Reseller Control Panel, click the Email domains tab, then click the domain you want to modify.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Defaults for new domains and users section, click Edit.
- In the User limit field, enter the maximum number of accounts of any type (regular mailbox, forward, and filter) allowed in the domain.
- In the Alias limit field, enter the maximum number of aliases allowed per domain.
- Click Save.
Set the limit in the MAC
You can also set per-domain limits in the Mail Administration Console.
- Log in to the Mail Administration Console (MAC).
- Navigate to the domain you want to modify.
- In the Settings section, enter the User limit (maximum accounts of any type: regular mailbox, forward, and filter) and the Alias limit (maximum aliases per domain).
- Click Update.
Next steps
- Set company-wide defaults. To apply a default limit to all new domains at once, see Setting Global Mailbox Limits.
- Review administrator roles. To confirm who can change these settings, see the company administrators article.
- Restore an account. If you are restoring mailboxes, review the account restore article before you begin.
