Authorization code process
The responsible registrar requests an authorization code from the registry. Registry Services then generates the code and returns it to the responsible registrar.
Authorization codes have limited validity for 14 days. Please contact OpenSRS support to obtain an Authorization code for your domain.
Additional Verification Requirements for New Domain Registrations
In response to NIS 2 requirements, Internet Stiftelsen has introduced a new process for additional registrant contact data verification in cases where the data is found to have inaccuracies.
Starting January 1st 2025, domains flagged for inaccurate registrant contact data will be placed on “ServerHold” and will not resolve until the contact data has been updated to valid data. These domains will also be unable to renew or transfer to a new registrar while the verification “ServerHold” is in place.
Flagged domains will be required to process an owner change to update to valid registrant contact data. Please ensure you review the registrant contact data for accuracy prior to making the owner change.
If the verification was successful, the “ServerHold” will be removed and the domain will begin to resolve. You will also be able to renew your domain and/or transfer to another registrar.
If the verification is unsuccessful, you will again need to review the data and make adjustments where required. A new owner change must be submitted.
Additional Verification Requirements for Existing & High-Risk Registrations
Starting May 1st, 2025, Internet Stiftelsen will begin to flag existing domains found to have inaccurate registrant contact data.
Existing non High-Risk domains
The registry will provide a timeframe in which the details must be corrected, generally 60 days.
Flagged domains will be required to process an owner change to update to valid registrant contact data. Please ensure you review the registrant contact data for accuracy prior to making the owner change.
If the registrant contact data is not updated within the specified time frame, the domain will be deactivated and placed on "ServerHold". These domains will not resolve and will also be unable to renew or transfer to a new registrar while the verification “ServerHold” is in place. A domain placed on "ServerHold" for verification purposes with no corrections made will expire on its listed expiration date.
If the verification was successful, the “ServerHold” will be removed and the domain will begin to resolve. You will also be able to renew your domain and/or transfer to another registrar.
If the verification is unsuccessful, you will again need to review the data and make adjustments where required. A new owner change must be submitted.
Existing High-Risk Domains:
The registry will provide a timeframe in which the details must be corrected, this is generally between 1-5 days. The domains are blocked from processing updates, renewals, and registrar transfers immediately. After 1-5 days if no corrections have been made the domain is deactivated and subsequently deregistered (expired) 60 days after deactivation.
Flagged high-risk domains will require resellers to submit supporting documentation to our support team to verify the registrant contact information. Once verified, our support team will contact the registry to have the domain unblocked. Once unblocked resellers must submit an owner change to update the registrant contact details
If the verification is successful, the registry will notify our team of its success and remove the block on the domain.
If the verification is unsuccessful, resellers may need to provide further documentation to support the registrant contact details. A new owner change must be submitted.
